Purple false foxglove, Purple gerardia, Gerardia are just some of the names for this plant. Correll and Johnston show 15 species of Agalinis for Texas whilst Jones, Wipff and Montgomery show 17 species. The USDA show 33 Agalinis species for the USA. These species are for the most part very difficult to differentiate. All Agalinis tend to be thin stemmed with thin opposite leaves. The flowers are large for the size of the plant and they grow from the leaf axils.
